Where I Am
From the centre of the universe
I come
And to its peripheries
I go
Meanwhile I stay
Where life has put me
And find the eternal soul of me
In this kernel of time and space
A place of rest
For weary feet
This nocturnal dream
Mirage of the home from which I come
To which I must return
A reassuring memory of what was
And is to be
I resist the urge to drink
From other wells
This thirst will remain unquenched
For the duration
Though I be drenched
In phantom springs
I cannot wring one drop
Of living water
From me
The one cup from which I sip
Is nothing but
I kind remind
Of what was and is to be
And all the oases in the world
Cannot sate me
And only the end of the dream
Can awake me
I will not desert my dwelling place
Nor break the magic spell
Of a fantasy
