I love spiders. But yesterday a small
spider
was crawling
over the keys of my word
processor
and in attempting to remove
it, I
accidentally
killed it. I cried as I saw its small body
motionless on my desk.
I
thought "Am I being silly crying over the death of a
spider?" But I also thought that I had not taken due
care
of
my small insect friends. There are
few
flies here. The
spiders' webs are
small,
and I do not remove them from the top
of the
windows. Most of them are outside.
A
minute after I had cried over the death of the small
spider, I went into my bathroom and to my delight there was
a
large spider (which I call a
Daddy-long-legs). But it is
probably a
common "House Spider" - Tegenaria gigantea) - and
the larger form is the female. I thought this spider
had
been
sent to console me. When I had a
bath
I put it on the window
sill and it crawled
outdoors but today it has returned and is
resting
undisturbed in the empty bath.
On another day I found a much smaller spider in my bath and photographed it ; afterwards it crawled on to a plant. |
